Bio:
Georgia Gaffney is an emerging visual artist working in puppetry and installation. Her work plays with interactivity and whimsy to explore social discourses. Whether it’s a giant ibis or a recycled coral sculpture, you can expect a playful, visual spectacle.
Made.In.Newcastle Project:
Georgia’s project ‘Coral’ was an installation at Top Shelf Excellent Mid City Launch Party that consisted of a large coral sculpture made from upcycled/recycled material (toilet rolls, chicken wire and other discarded materials). The installation also included multiple suspended crab pots and ‘kelp’ made from discarded fabrics, clothes etc. When these objects were lit, they presented the natural underwater ecosystem as colourful and playful – as humans perceive them to be. When these objects were unlit, they represent the current state of these ecosystems. The purpose of this install was to provide playful yet engaging commentary on our interaction and perceptions of the natural world.
