Liss Finney – Animal Walk

Liss Finney has created a ‘treasure hunt’ type installation in and around the Hunter Street Mall, using various animal foot prints on the ground to lead kids and adults alike in discovering hidden animals and creatures on the walls, ground or nooks of buildings.

A fun way to explore the area by foot and also learn about the animal inhabitants in the Hunter area. Also incorporated is information on the creature, either at the site or via a QR code which includes the Awabakal name of the animal, its current population status and any threats to the species to aid in it’s survival and to help educate the public about Australia’s current extinction crisis. In the ‘hunt’ will include things like the precise foot print or animal track leading to the hidden animal, so people learn how to identify different tracks when out in nature, as well as life size renderings of the different animals peaking out from various sites.

The trail will be also available on the City of Newcastle’s Walking Trail App.
