The World According to Leon Redbone
The World According To The Leon Redbone is a radio play jazz cabaret exploring the trials and tribulations of a group of well intentioned musicians as they attempt to create a tribute show focused on the almost unknown, possibly unknowable, but iconic Leon Redbone.
Bob Dylan described Redbone’s music as so “authentic you can hear the surface noise of an old 78”. Realising a tribute show for someone nobody has ever heard of is doomed, our musicians attempt to relate Redbone’s quirky repertoire to local issues, including domestic conflicts, criminal activities, corruption and assorted scandals, with hilarious results.
The audience will be taken on a journey through the delightfully peculiar musical tastes of Leon Redbone, who left this realm in 2019 in his own words, aged 127. A very private man, he invented a unique stage persona, and acted out his public life as a fictitious character… But then in some ways, don’t we all? Brought to you by the two time CONDA winning team of David Baker (guitar); Chris Gill (clarinet, saxophone, percussion) and Marcus Holdsworth (double bass, sousaphone, trombone).
